What is Ford BlueCruise? | Haldeman Ford, East Windsor, NJ

Self-driving cars. They’re the stuff of spy novels and superhero movies– you take your hands off the wheel and the vehicle just keeps going on its own. However, if you think that this kind of cutting-edge technology will be forever relegated to the world of science fiction, then you need to get ready to experience the impossible, because Ford BlueCruise takes this technological fantasy and makes it real. You can experience real automated driving technology in your very own new Ford vehicle today, and if that’s not what it feels like to be living in the future, nothing else is. Keep reading below to learn more about how Ford made this happen, and how you can experience it for yourself!

How Does Ford BlueCruise Work?

Self-driving technology is complex and advanced, but the building blocks it took to create it are actually ones that you’re probably familiar with. Safety and driver assistance features like lane-keeping aids are becoming more and more common in vehicles today, and they’re also part of the power behind BlueCruise. Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go and Lane Centering works to keep an eye on the cars around you, keeping you inside your lane and away from other vehicles on the road, and Speed Sign Recognition technology works to keep your Ford vehicle at the right speed for the road you’re on. Combine all that with a driver-facing camera (like the kind used for driver attention alerts) that monitors you to make sure you’re keeping your eyes on the road wheel your vehicle cruises along, and you’ve got Ford BlueCruise, true hands-free driving that anyone can experience.

How Do I Use Ford BlueCruise?

Ford BlueCruise is available to be used on over 130,000 miles of North American roads in both the US and Canada. These sections of divided highway are prequalified for Ford automated driving and are called Hands-Free Blue Zones. All you have to do is head into your vehicle controls, find the Driver Assistance menu, and enable BlueCruise. Your instrument panel will light up blue to indicate that the technology is in use, and from there you’re free to sit back, relax, and watch the road go by.
