Sometime ago, that amazing Ford Motor Company sent out several applications to prospective buyers who were interested in the GT, and this raised a lot of eyebrows. Most of the applicants who got the application were already GT owners. Some celebrities were also on the list like YouTuber Shmee 150 and Deadmau5.
The all new Ford GT is a limited edition car that will be manufactured and sold to a limited number of people, so a lot of fans are going to be left out. You cannot keep everyone happy. Well, perhaps you will see one being sold on Craigslist one day! In an exclusive interview with Raj Nair, Ford's head of product development and the company's CTO (Chief Technical Officer), it was revealed that the new GT actually did go to the fans.
Distribution Strategy
"We tried to be as gracious as we could to our loyal Ford customers. As a gesture of our appreciation for Ford enthusiasts, 87 percent of the selected applicants are existing Ford vehicle owners and 69 percent own a previous generation Ford GT." Well if one is not good enough, now you have two! Now you have two reasons to brag to family members during the Christmas break.
Raj Nair went on to say that the distribution strategy was formulated as an effort to be as much as fair to the true fans of Ford as possible. They wanted to keep the deserving candidates happy and satisfied. If you are not happy with this new Ford GT then probably nothing will make you happy. This Ford super sports car rivals that of even the finest Lamborghini.
Second Round
The interview with Raj Nair has fuelled even more speculation. It seems that Ford is trying really hard to keep everyone, or as many of its fans happy as possible. It seems that maybe there are more GTs in the pipeline that maybe revealed at a later stage. Maybe this was only the initial run and more fans are going to get their hands on the new GT?
This would also explain the fact that why a lot of applicants were put on the waitlist. Why was there a waitlist if there are no more GTs coming? The applicants were not rejected as they should have been if Ford was out of stock. It is to be noted here that no official announcement has been made by Ford yet, but fans are keeping their fingers crossed. If they have not received a car yet, perhaps they can in the future. That could be the point of the list.
Going by the look and the current distribution strategy of Ford, the future batches of GT will be distributed in a similar fashion too. The rejection letter by Ford that was sent to the unfortunate fans who failed to secure their hands on the wheel also hinted that Ford is not done with GT, at least not yet.
Specs
The Ford GT has specs that are drool worthy. The new Ford GT comes with EcoBoost Turbo Charging technology, and it is powered by a twin turbo 3.5 liter v6 fuel engine. Earlier versions of the GT came with a v8 engine but that is no longer the case. The new 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine is capable of producing 550 bhp, and it has been mounted behind the two seater cabin. The power is sent to the rear wheels using a 7 speed dual clutch automatic gear box.
The Ford GT is available in eight different color options with 8 different decal options that will run down the center of the car. As far as wheels are concerned, you can choose between 20 inch carbon fiber or aluminum wheels. There are 4 different interior color schemes including "Dark Energy" and "Light Speed". Only 500 of these cars are going to be made in the first few years, but there is hope for more.
