Ford made heads turn all over the world when it set some records at the recent 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2016. Ford's recent return to the ground was appreciated by fans and critics alike. Lego has now decided to honor Ford by including two iconic models namely 1966 GT40, the original GT to win the Le Mans and GT 2016 as speed champions in their next set which will be launched in March of next year.

This is not the first time a Lego version of the GT car has been created. Just before the Le Mans event, a huge LEGO version of the car was showcased by Ford. It was almost one third in size of the original GT which was put on display at the 24 hours of Le Mans. It was built using 40,000 bricks of LEGO and took over three weeks to complete. To mark the anniversary of the legendary win in the year 1966, the car was assigned the number 66.
LEGO Speed Champions Set
The upcoming set, unlike the previous one that was a one off made by Ford to be showcased at the Le Mans, will be made by LEGO as part of their Speed Champions set. This is a collectors' edition set that can be bought by anyone who is passionate about such things.
The announcement was recently made by Ford which further stated that the set will be available exclusively on the official website of LEGO, on their shop page, from March 1st.

The set will include both the legendary vehicles along with a handful of other cars. The set will carry a retail price of about $29.99. Considering that the holiday season is almost upon us, it would have made more sense for LEGO to have made the set available in time for Christmas and New Year. By the time the set will be available for sale, the holiday season would be well over by 2 months and people would be busy with other stuff.
If you are looking to build a collection of awesome speed and sports cars that have been released by Ford over the years, there are a lot of models you could select from. You can buy the recently released LEGO sets of Mustangs.
After the success of the Mustang, LEGO also released the LEGO version of the world acclaimed Ford F-150 Raptor series. To complete the set, you will need a podium and a race track and you are set. You will find that the set comes complete with drivers in both cars behind the wheel giving it a more realistic approach. LEGO is known for its attention to detail and for good reason.
Enthusiasm and Excitement

The global director of Ford Performance, Dave Pericak, says that most of the team who built the LEGO Le Mans model grew knowing the legend of Ford's historic win in 1966. For them, it was a matter of fantastic pride and honor, and there was a lot of excitement and enthusiasm in the atmosphere when they were working the LEGO model. Dave believes that this is a fantastic and powerful way of telling a profound story to the world.
Another benefit of creating this set is that the engineers, drivers, and the entire team of Ford will be motivated to work harder and smarter for the next few years to come.
