It's been around three years since the last time Ford decided it was time to launch a newly redesigned Mustang for the current generation. Considering the iconic brand that Mustang has become in the last 5 or so decades, it was no surprise that the critics as well as the fans went gaga over the new model.

It is a true muscle car. It is a sports car for the masses.

Ford decided to use an EcoBoost turbocharged engine with four cylinders, but the fans were more interested in the GT v8 engine which produced a sound that you would immediately fell in love with. Riding high on the success of the Mustang, Ford decided to take things a notch higher by launching a GT350 R which was named as performance car of the year by several critics and sites on the Internet.

Now, Ford is preparing to launch a new update to an already awesome model, probably in 2018, and here is everything you need to know about it.

This is a refresh

You are not going to meet an all brand new spanking Mustang next year, this is only an upgrade or you may call it a refresh. Things are going to be a little different, but overall, Mustang is going to hold its current form factor for the year 2018. This means that you can expect some tweaks, enhancements and minor changes on the outside, inside the cabin and under the hood.

You do not need to fix what is not broken.

This is not to say that Ford is not working on a complete makeover. Ford has already announced plans for unveiling a new iteration of the Mustang in the year 2022, or 2020 according to a more recent report.

Magneride

If you want Magneride, then you will have to go for the Shelby 350 and 350R, but it is being said that Ford will introduce Magneride to Mustang GT models to close the gap between the Mustang and its arch rival the Camaro SS. Remember though, the maker of the Camaro needed a bailout and still owes the US tax payer money and Ford never asked for a bailout since they did not need one.

Dual Clutch

Unfortunately, the current iteration of the Shelby 350 and 350 R comes with manual transmission only, and while for some hardcore enthusiasts, this is all they need, there are other fans who are eagerly waiting for a dual clutch transmission which will help the Shelby improve its lap times which are already amazing.

End of the v6

Ford awed the world five years ago when they first launched the v6 engine that was capable of giving 31 mpg on the highway after producing 305 hp of raw power on the road. The world went crazy and experts and fans both were happy. Unfortunately, it seems that the v6 engine is going to be discontinued. The sales and performance of the new four cylinder turbocharged engine by Ford has officially taken over.

Ford has now reserved the v6 powered cars for rentals, it makes sense for them to discontinue this trim and make way for the new generation. It is a marvelous car nonetheless. It is an eye turner, there is no doubt about that.

10 speed automatic option

Ford introduced the all-new 10 speed automatic transmission with the Raptor F-150, and now according to some reports, the same technology is going to make an appearance on the new Mustang 2018 model. This would be interesting to see. The Mustang is going to be sportier than ever before with some new and improved technology under the hood, and some cosmetic changes that will keep things in line with the current global auto trends.

Ford is the true innovator.
