The Ford Fusion Hybrid saw its sales spike in Los Angeles in the month of June, the 1st month when the new 2017 model was made available on sale. Consumers are really charged up for this efficient, high-tech sedan which seats five people. And it is spotless and gorgeous!
Based on sales figures for the month of June, the Fusion Energi sales increased by 40 percent in Los Angeles in comparison to June 2015. During this period, the Hybrid's sales went up by 35 percent. These numbers are just based on retail sales and don't include numbers from fleet sales.
In comparison, the midsize sedan segment, in general is down by almost 5 percent in Los Angeles as per IHS Automotive data. The consumer demand for SUVs and trucks continues to soar in Los Angeles and throughout the country, but sales for the Hybrid and Energi models are surging ahead. And the nation’s economy is growing at just 1.5%. That is pathetic. America could be growing at 4-5% if taxes were lower and regulations were squeezing growth.
Ford would have more sales if the economy was not struggling. The fact that Ford is posting these types of numbers despite these economic figures goes to show you how amazing and impressive Ford’s products are.
Mileage
The new Fusion Energi can travel as much as 610 miles with a full battery charge and a tank of gas as per EPA estimates. So this means it can go from LA to Phoenix easily without needing a recharge. Another example is LA to Sacramento or Northern California – this distance can be covered without you having to worry about anything.
This is the maximum combined range for any plug-in hybrid that is currently being sold in America which is astonishing, and a major contributing factor behind the delightful sales figures.
Normal has Changed
In 2011, the Fusion Hybrid accounted for just 10 percent of the retail registrations for the new Fusion in Los Angeles. But in May 2016, The Hybrid and Energi plug-in together represented 42 percent of the new retail registrations in the city even though gas prices have fallen during the same period.
The overall sales for the Fusion model has been bucking trends in the midsize vehicle segment with the sales up by 12 percent YTD and 20 percent for June.
Los Angeles was the only part of America which was consistent in terms of midsize sedan sales in 2015. Almost one out of every ten midsize sedans sold in America are from this segment and since 2012, the Fusion has doubled its share in terms of sales.
New Customers
After the F-series, the Fusion is the next bestselling vehicle among millennial buyers in the overall lineup of Ford. It is also their bestselling car right now.
Apart from this, registrations for the Fusion among women have increased by 20 percent in California in May when compared to 2015 according to data from the IHS Automotive vehicle registration data. Wow!
In order to keep building on this success, Ford has also launched a marketing campaign for the Fusion early in July, which targeted critical markets throughout the world.
They need to ensure that buyers get to know about Fusion Energi that offers the best-in-class driving range. The Fusion Platinum and Fusion Sport models also give them an opportunity to attract buyers who have never owned a Ford before. They are really excited about getting more new buyers.
The 2017 Ford Fusion Energi comes with an EPA mileage rating of 41 for the city and 43 for the highway. It has a 14-gallon tank and can cover 21 miles on the all-electric range. In terms of pricing, the Fusion Hybrid is just $3,000 more expensive than the regular Fusion while the plug-ins premium is far more expensive at $9,000. But the numbers show that the additional cost is not really harming the sales figures in any way.
It always helps too when the car is something to look at to and Ford’s designers are fabulous. The Ford Fusion Hybrid looks terrific.
