Ford has decided to honor late automobile exhaust catalyst inventor and research engineer Haren Gandhi by inducting him in the National Inventor Hall of Fame Museum, located in Alexandria, VA.

It is always awesome to reward brilliance and hard work!

Rich History

Gandhi worked with Ford for over 40 years, from 1967 to 2010, and was proudly nominated for the position by Ford executives last year. Gandhi has as many as 61 patents in the US alone, and over 90 patents abroad. This only goes on to show his dedication to the work he did, and his expertise in the field of automobile technology.

This is why America is spectacular. It is the freest country which means it allows its citizens to have freer thoughts which is one reason America has the most patents and inventions. American ingenuity reigns supreme.

America will even be much better off when it fixes its terrible health care system and lowers taxes. This will mean businesses will be able to spend more money on R&D compared to what has been happening for the last several years. America has the highest corporate tax in the world. Hopefully that will soon change and companies like Ford will really be able to invest in this country and there will be more Gandhi’s in the game taking us to new levels.

The Ceremony

An illumination ceremony was held where Gandhi's name was inducted in an illuminated hexagon in the Icon's Gallery in the museum.

The moment you enter the museum, you will notice that most of the awards that are found in the glass shelves have his name and picture on them. The research center has his name written all over it. It came as a surprise that his name was not inducted in the National Inventor Hall of Fame Museum before this because his contribution can't be overlooked.

Achievements

Under Gandhi's supervision and direction, Ford was the first ever company to use non-platinum and non-rhodium 3-way catalyst technology in the US. Emission control is different now thanks to Gandhi's discovery. Gandhi revolutionized the way emission is controlled in today's automobiles.

Another significant milestone to be noted here is that Henry Ford was the first person ever to be inducted in the National Inventor Hall of Fame Museum, and Dr. Gandhi came only second to him. This is a real milestone, and Gandhi's legacy continues to inspire engineers even today.

The commissioner of US Trademark and Patent Office, the patents division for new breakthrough technologies, Drew Hirshfeld said that Gandhi and the remaining 17 inductees in the Hall of Fame Museum were prolific inventors and visionaries who changed the way industry worked through their inventions. These inductees also "paved the way" for future generation of engineers who are working on STEM technology.

Legacy

Yellow, widow of Dr. Gandhi, says that she is very proud of her husband's achievements, and she is happy that her husband was inducted in the National Inventors Hall of Fame. She further added that Gandhi dedicated his entire life on trying to improve emission standards in automobile vehicles. He dedicated much of his time on trying to remove pollutants so that automobiles would become safer for the environment.

Dr. Gandhi is survived by his daughter Sangeeta Gandhi Shan. Shan adds that her father worked with a lot of government departments and agencies around the world trying to work on solutions to urgent problems. He also worked with UN as well as large and medium auto suppliers. Though he was working with Ford, his "impact" was felt across the globe.

The work of Gandhi becomes even more significant as more scandals involving automobile emissions norms came to light. Volkswagen AG was accused and found guilty of rigging tens of thousands of diesel cars to pass and to satisfy US auto emission requirements and tests. Needless to say, scandals like these puts Gandhi's work into more perspective.

The right amount of fuel and air is required to make sure that fuel is being burned cleanly, and with minimum pollution. While others thought of cheating, Gandhi thought of finding a solution and that’s what makes him worthy of praise.
