This month Ford Motor Company announced the upcoming 2019 Edge ST, a high performance version of their popular midsize SUV. While Ford is no stranger to offering race-inspired modifications, 2019 marks the first time an ST upgrade will be available for this particular model.
Few official details have been released, but Ford fans and auto enthusiasts alike are already talking about the Edge ST. Ford has confirmed that it will feature a turbocharged V6 engine producing about 335 horsepower stock. The body style should remain similar to the standard 2019 Edge models, with some added aesthetic and performance enhancing details of course.
The ST will replace the Sport option in the Edge lineup, and is being developed by Ford's Performance team with specific goals for grip, braking, handling and overall ride quality. Hardware upgrades - including paddle shifters - standard eight-speed automatic transmission, standard AWD and an available Sport mode should help the Edge ST hit those targets.
The Ford Focus ST is one of the American automaker's most popular models, a sporty sedan known for its excellent customization possibilities. The Mustang also remains a perennial favorite with a devoted following worldwide. Additionally, truck fans still love F-150 Raptor, so there is no doubt there is a market for high performance Fords. The Edge ST won't be available for several months, but as 2019 draws nearer, interested drivers can expect to hear more and more about this brand new model and its new features.
