Even though Ford was founded in the United States, it is no longer confined to the country. In fact, the company has initiatives and activities that range across the globe. These initiatives range from technological research to humanitarian efforts. One country that has recently seen Ford programs within it is Saudi Arabia.
Up until very recently, it was illegal for women to drive in Saudi Arabia. The country has since changed this law, allowing women the opportunity to get behind the wheel. This momentous news came with one setback; these new drivers have little to no education on the fundamentals of driving.
Ford set out to change this with their first ever Driving Skills for Life for Her. The program was designed specifically with new Saudi woman drivers in mind. Jim Vella, president of the Ford Fund, had this to say about the new initiative, “This program is designed to help young women feel safe and confident behind the wheel for the first time, and with it, we look forward to welcoming a new generation of women to the driver’s seat.”
Driving Skills for Life for Her was held at Effat University. The turnout was strong, with more than 250 students coming out to attend the event. Even though it is in its primary year, the program is already giving helpful instruction to new women drivers. As it continues, Driving Skills for Life for Her will continue to inspire new drivers with the skill and confidence they need to succeed on the road.
