Fall is a great time to do some work on your vehicle. The season serves as a sort of break between summer and winter. During the summer, your vehicle is subjected to extreme heat, and runs very hard to keep its engine and you cool. In the winter, the cold taxes virtually every part of the vehicle.
In between these two extremes, fall is the perfect time to get up to date on your vehicle’s maintenance, both to repair it from the summer, and prepare it for winter.
Tires
Throughout the year, your tires should be one of your top focuses on your vehicle. During the summer, due to vacations and road trips, many people drive their cars more than usual. As such, fall may be a good time to rotate your tires, in order to keep them operating in top shape.
Additionally, fall is the time to look into snow tires. If you are in an area that has frequent snowfall, snow tires (which perform much better in the poor winter conditions) may be something to invest in.
Oil and Fluids
After a long, hot summer, it’s important to make sure your vehicle is geared up for the winter. In the break between weather extremes, it’s a good idea to have your oil changed. This way, the vehicle will be able to perform its best through the colder weather. Additionally, it’s important to make sure that your engine’s fluids, particularly the coolant, are in good order. The coolant is very important in both hot and cold weather.
Brakes
Brakes are another essential part of the vehicle that need regular maintenance. Brakes go through quite a bit of wear during the summer, especially if you take any long road trips. Getting brakes checked, or replaced, during the fall will help to make sure your vehicle is very responsive, and that you can stop quickly.
Fall is a time of rest for your vehicle before winter. It also serves as an ideal time to get work done on your vehicle, keep it maintained, and get it ready for the coming months.
