When the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic first broke out, the Ford Motor Company couldn’t just sit idly by without offering all the assistance it could.
In an effort to alleviate the stress put on communities by the outbreak, Ford launched the Ford Motor Company Fund’s COVID-19 Donation Match program. In doing so, the company set a lofty $1 million expectation for itself.
Earlier this week, Ford announced that the program had surpassed its initial goals by contributing $1,133,447 million to relief efforts both at home and across the globe.
“Giving back is one of Ford’s key values and that is most exemplified in our employees,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “We received so many requests from employees asking how they could help in the early days of the pandemic. The donation match program provided a meaningful way for employees to join the fight against COVID-19 – even at a time they could not physically be there to pitch in and help make a difference.”
47 nonprofit organizations across 14 U.S. states and 20 countries received funds donated by Ford employees and others. These donations were then matched by $500,000 from both the Ford Fund and the personal accounts of Executive Chairman Bill Ford.
Donations funds were aimed at community projects located in areas with significant coronavirus-related needs and a substantial number of Ford employees.
29 percent of the funds went to hunger relief efforts, 24 percent went to projects that blended basic human needs like food, shelter, and clothing, and 19 percent went to educational efforts.
Remaining donations supported health-related projects as well as art programs designed to preserve jobs at various educational institutions that provide historical and cultural significance. You can read the full breakdown of donation funds by country right here.
“This pandemic has impacted every aspect of our daily life and put many nonprofit organizations at risk of being unable to serve their communities,” said Mary Culler, president, Ford Motor Company Fund. “Thanks to the generosity of our employees and others, we were able to support a wide range of projects around the world and continue the critically important work these nonprofits are doing.”
The COVID-19 Donation Match Program is just one example of how deeply Ford cares about communities at both a local and global level. At Haldeman Ford East Windsor, we share that same sentiment.
