Ford recently announced that a few fortunate Ford Mustang drivers — and their impressive cars — will be able to participate in the global reveal of the seventh generation of the Ford Mustang as part of the Detroit Auto Show on Sept. 14. Ford invites Mustang fans around the world to descend on Hart Plaza for the debut of the all-new, seventh-generation Mustang taking place at 8 p.m. EDT.
In the heart of Motor City, and with thousands of invited Mustang owners along with Ford employees and global media in the audience, The Stampede event kicks off the next chapter of the Mustang story.
“Mustang is the world’s best-selling sports car because there’s one for everyone – from an EcoBoost convertible to 5-liter V8 GT fastback coupe,” said Jim Farley, president and chief executive officer, Ford Motor Company. “Now it’s time to for a new stampede of owners, fans and employees to welcome the next chapter in Mustang’s legacy – the seventh-generation, which will be our best yet.”
While there is still not much known about the seventh-generation Mustang, the new sporty vehicle is expected to share its rear-wheel-drive platform with the newest Ford Explorer. In terms of power under the hood, the new Mustang is also expected to keep its current Coyote V-8 and the EcoBoost four-cylinder. No official statement yet has been made about whether or not either engine will feature a manual transmission, but many drivers are hopeful. Just as interestingly though, a hybrid drivetrain is likely to be released for this new generation as well as an all-wheel-drive option—both firsts for the Mustang.
Before the Stampede event, Ford is also collaborating with America’s Automotive Trust and the Detroit Auto Show to establish a cross-country adventure with all six generations of Mustang called The Drive Home. Ford is improving this yearly road trip to the Detroit Auto Show by inviting and encouraging all Mustang owners and enthusiasts to join in on both The Drive Home and The Stampede.
The world is excited for the debut of this hotly-anticipated sports car, but only time will tell if the seventh-generation Ford Mustang will live up to its reputation as an American icon. Based on the great Mustangs from generations past, we don’t expect to be disappointed.
For audiences not able to attend the final festivities in Detroit, the event will be livestreamed on both Ford’s YouTube channel and the Ford Mustang Facebook page.
