Ford has officially announced a groundbreaking collaboration between Ford Next and Uber that offers exciting new lease options tailored specifically for rideshare drivers transitioning to electric vehicles. The revolutionary program, named Ford Drive, offers flexible access to the acclaimed Ford Mustang Mach-E models and has been officially introduced in the vibrant cities of San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Rideshare drivers now have the freedom to choose a Mustang Mach-E through a flexible lease program, offering lease terms ranging from one to four months based on their location. Within a short time frame of two weeks, the chosen vehicle is delivered directly to the driver. In collaboration with local dealers, the Ford Drive team acquires a fleet of Mustang Mach-Es for each city, ensuring that the vehicles receive regular service and maintenance through authorized dealerships. To simplify the leasing process, payments and service management can be conveniently handled using the Ford Drive app.

“We understand uptime and ease of use are critical to every rideshare driver. As more of them make the switch to electric vehicles, we’re building the Ford Drive program around their unique needs,” said Bill Knapp, who leads Ford Drive. “We’re glad that the initial feedback on this venture has been so strong, and it’s exciting to learn from these driver experiences to explore solutions supporting Uber and Ford’s shared electrification goals.”

Ford Next and Uber made waves in 2022 when they first introduced the innovative flexible lease pilot program, enabling rideshare drivers in San Diego to lease over 150 impressive Mustang Mach-Es. Building upon its success, this pioneering initiative has now expanded to encompass three prominent cities in California. The Golden State holds a special place for Uber as its leading North American market for electric vehicle (EV) adoption, with an impressive milestone of nearly 10 percent of all on-trip miles completed in fully electric vehicles by late 2022.

Uber has set an ambitious goal to become a zero-emissions platform in both North America and Europe by 2030. To support this mission, Uber has pledged a substantial $800 million in incentives and resources to assist drivers in transitioning to electric vehicles.
