Having gained approval from the European Commission, Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving technology has now expanded from North America to become available in 15 European nations.

This enables users to travel over 82,744 miles of designated roadways, or "Blue Zones," throughout Europe, enabling cross-border car trips with hands-free driving. Drivers now have the opportunity to use BlueCruise from trips like the 1,864 miles and over 25 hours of driving it takes to travel across six countries from Sweden to Italy.

Ford customers can now use BlueCruise in 17 countries around the world thanks to this certification, including the U.S., Canada, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.

Over the past year, BlueCruise has gained popularity the world over. When BlueCruise debuted in Great Britain in 2023, it was the first system of its kind to receive regulatory certification. It was also the first advanced driver aid system in Europe to provide true hands-free driving at highway speeds. Additionally, BlueCruise began to reach drivers in Germany, and Ford became the first automaker to be approved and launch hands-free highway driving in Spain.

BlueCruise can ensure that drivers, whether they are taking a lengthy road trip or commuting in traffic every day, arrive at their destination feeling less tired and more energized. According to AAA, people spend around one hour driving every day on average. This can be physically tiring, mentally taxing, and exhausting. BlueCruise technology allows for the alleviation of that stress.

Ford is already producing more electric, hybrid, and gas-powered Ford and Lincoln vehicles in North America– including the 2025 Ford Explorer and 2025 Lincoln Aviator– that will have BlueCruise available. BlueCruise will be an option for all Lincoln U.S. models starting this summer with the delivery of Aviators.

American owners have discussed how BlueCruise is improving their driving hours. F-150 Lightning owner Peter Lamarine said, “BlueCruise changed what was a completely boring, monotonous ride to something that is now enjoyable. The worst part of my day is work, and the best part is driving to and from work.”

Over 420,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with BlueCruise are currently in use worldwide. Along with utilizing BlueCruise for over 3.1 million hours, customers in the US and Canada have also accrued over 213 million hands-free miles. That is a greater distance than a round trip from Earth to the sun.
